I Saw God Today

Last night I was listening to the radio and heard a song that kind of hit me. It's by George Strait and it's called, "I Saw God Today".

I Saw God Today
Just walked down the street to the coffee shop
Had to take a break
I’ve been by her side for 18 hours straight
Saw a flower growing in the middle of a sidewalk
Pushing up through the concrete
Like it was planted right there for me to see
The flashing lights, the honking horns
All seemed to fade away
In the shadow of that hospital at 508
I saw God today

Chorus
I’ve been to church, I’ve read the book
I know he’s here but I don’t look
Near as often as I should .. yeah I know I should
His fingerprints are everywhere
I just slowed down to stop and stare
Opened my eyes and man I swear
I saw God today.

Saw a couple walking by
They were holding hands
Man she had that glow
Yeah I couldn’t help but notice
she was starting to show
Stood there for a minute taking in the sky
Lost in that sunset
A splash of amber melted into shades of red.

Chorus
I’ve been to church, I’ve read the book
I know he’s here but I don’t look
Near as often as I should .. yeah I know I should
His fingerprints are everywhere
I just slowed down to stop and stare
Opened my eyes and man I swear
I saw God today

Got my face pressed up against the nursery glass
She’s sleeping like a rock
My name on her wrist wearing tiny pink socks
She’s got my nose, she’s got her mamas eyes
My brand new baby girl
She’s a miracle
I saw God today

Now, I'm not a huge George Strait fan, but I was immediately drawn to this song. How often are we "seeing God" in our daily lives? I often see beautiful trees or mountains or a rain storm and give my thanks for the beauty of this earth. But really, how often do we see God in all the little details? This song has challenged me to be more grateful for everything in my life that Heavenly Father has blessed me with...to start noticing Him everywhere I go and in everything I see and do.

I LOVE YOUR THOUGHTS, THEY ARE SO TRUE. I KNOW TO OFTEN I FORGET THAT OUR HEAVENLY FATHER IS ALWAYS BESIDE ME, IN ALL THINGS IN MY LIFE, BIG OR SMALL, GOOD OR BAD. I'LL HAVE TO LOOK THE SONG UP, I LOVE THE LYRICS.

Oooh. I love those lyrics. You know, I have never been a country fan, but lately I have been listening to it more often in the car (it's one of the only stations I get driving through the canyon) and I have realized that most of them are really uplifting. I like that. I'm all about getting a little "spiritual boost" whenever I can.

Last week "I saw God." I was just sitting there watching Avery color and I got so overwhelmed. I told the hubby that I am SO grateful that she is part of our family. I know looking at a child is an OBVIOUS sign of Him, but sometimes I even take something as wonderful as a child for granted. I have been keeping a gratitude journal for the last year and it really helps me to stay happy. I love looking back on it and seeing how "i saw God" during the year. He is everywhere.

That is one of my new favorite songs! I am a huge George Strait fan...He is the one that did How 'bout those Cowgirls which was on my blog. I saw God coming home from Palm Springs on Sunday...the most beautiful pineapple colored sunset I have seen since we were in Hawaii...sunsets are my favorite place to find God! It is the most peaceful time of my evening and the end to my usually hectic day! Love ya lots

What a beautiful song. I love George Strait, but I haven't heard that one yet, I don't listen to the radio much any more. Thanks so much for the reminder. I really do take things for granted all too often and have so many things in my life that I need to remember God is the reason for.
